Utah Valley University Student Dies From COVID-19

OREM, Utah – Officials with Utah Valley University said a 27-year-old student has died from COVID-19.
“We are saddened to learn that Trevor Syphus Lee, 27, one of our Utah Valley University students, passed away from COVID-19. We have reached out to his family to extend our sincere condolences,” officials said in a statement issued Friday. “Trevor was a senior and scheduled to graduate spring semester 2021. He was taking the summer off and had not enrolled in any classes this current semester.
“Again, we extend our sincere condolences to Trevor’s loved ones and friends, and we hope they know that they are in our thoughts and hearts.”
In a letter to the campus community, UVU President Astrid S. Tuminez said the state health department told the school Lee had underlying medical conditions and died Tuesday.
“As fellow Wolverines, we grieve his loss,” she said. “Those who knew and loved Trevor are understandably devastated. The loss of Trevor leaves an emptiness that cannot be filled. We offer our sincere condolences to his family, friends, and those influenced by this bright young man.”
Family members said Lee loved video games, cooking and making holidays special. He served a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Brazil from 2013-2015.
Funeral services were planned for June 17 in St. George the family has established a GoFundMe page.*
On Friday, state officials reported eight new deaths and 325 cases of COVID-19.
Overall, 139 people have died from COVID-19 in Utah and 13,577 people have tested positive.
An estimated 7,935 patients have recovered and 130 were hospitalized as of Friday.
