SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – Authorities Wednesday announced 484 new confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Utah an additional 30 hospitalizations.
No new deaths were reported.
There have been a total of 18,784 confirmed cases, 1,256 hospitalizations and 163 deaths so far in the state, according to the Utah Department of Health.
Currently, there are 167 positive COVID-19 cases hospitalized, authorities reported. Of the patients hospitalized, 77 of them are in ICU beds. According to UDOH, 61.1% of all ICU beds in Utah hospitals are occupied, and 44.9% of all non-ICU beds are occupied.
There are also 48 patients currently hospitalized as COVID-19 persons under investigation.
The state reports that 192 out of Utah’s 1,297 ventilators have been used.
Health officials reported 304,738 lab tests have been issued, and the rate of positives is at 6.2% of total tested. That number is up slightly from 6.1% on Tuesday and 6% on Monday.
Gov. Gary Herbert and state epidemiologist Dr. Angela Dunn will be holding a press briefing and a situational update at 4 p.m. Wednesday.
The press conference comes just days after an internal memo was released in which Dunn wrote that the state is “quickly getting to a point where the only viable option to manage spread and deaths will be a complete shutdown.”
Herbert responded shortly after the memo was made public, saying he shared Dunn’s concerns but had no plans to shut down the state’s economy.
