Multiple New Fires Start Amid Fourth Of July Celebrations

A fire burns in Iron County on the Fourth of July 2020

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – Crews battled multiple fires across the state Sunday, with at least three new wildfires having started on July 4.

According to Utah Fire Info, there are nine active wildfires burning in the Beehive State. Three of them started on Independence Day, and one of those three is confirmed to have been human-caused.

Parson Fire

This fire burning at the west of Box Elder County and also in Nevada started on July 1, has burned 326 acres and is 76% contained. Information about a possible cause was not made available.

East Slope Fire

This brush fire is burning on a mountainside in Davis County. Information about the fire’s size, containment and cause were not immediately available.

Knolls Fire

The Knolls Fire in Utah County sparked June 28 and has burned 12,584 acres. It is now 100% contained. The fire led to evacuations, it destroyed one home and damaged multiple others. Investigators said the fire is human-caused.

Eagle Fire

Also in Utah County, the Eagle Fire began on July 4. It has burned 105 acres and is 90% contained. The fire was human-caused.

Powerline Fire

In Juab County, the Powerline Fire has been burning since June 29. It is 703 acres and is 90% contained. The cause is under investigation.

Canal Fire

The lightning-caused Canal Fire has been burning in Millard County since June 26. I has burned 78,005 acres and is 83% contained.

July 4, 2020This video was shot today along Oak Creek Canyon Road. It shows the current condition of the canyon and the distance from the canyon to the southern edge of the #CanalFire.The fire is still about 3 miles north of Oak Creek Canyon. Firefighters remain committed to protecting the canyon and have actively engaged the fire again today to stop its advance.

Rock Path Fire

The Rock Path Fire, also caused by lightning, is burning in Millard and Beaver counties. It is 20,941 acres and 90% contained.

Lund Fire

The Lund Fire in Iron County started July 4. It has burned 837 acres and is zero percent contained. The blaze damaged an outbuilding and two vehicles. The cause is under investigation.

Wire Pass Fire

The lightning-caused Wire Pass Fire has been burning in Kane County since June 26. It is 1,580 acres and 95% contained.
