Firewatch: 8 Active Wildfires Burning In Utah Thursday

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – There were eight active wildfires burning in the Beehive State on Thursday, according to Utah Fire Info.

Six of those fires were human caused, one of which is in Utah County where residents have been dealing with multiple incidents for months now.

Here’s a breakdown of each fire.

Pole Canyon Fire

The Pole Canyon in Utah County has 488 acres and is 10% percent contained. Authorities said it was caused by someone using a bulldozer. A Type 3 incident management team assumed command of the fire on Thursday. There are no mandatory evacuations in place at this time.

Mountain Home Fire

In Weber County, the Mountain Home Fire has burned 78 acres and is 80% contained. Officials said it was human caused.

Authorities have asked the public to stay clear of the Coldwater Trailhead and trail as crews continue to work on containing the fire.

Allen Fire

The Allen Fire in Daggett County has burned 40 acres and is zero percent contained. Structures are threatened, and the cause is unknown.

Split Fire

The lightning-caused Split Fire has burned 37 acres in Uintah County and is zero percent contained.

Abbot Fire

The Abbot Fire in Duchesne County was also caused by lightning. It has burned 52 acres and is 90% contained. The fire started July 13.

Big Summit Fire

The Big Summit Fire started in Nevada and has burned its way into western Iron County. It has burned a total of 5,076 acres and is 10% contained. Authorities ordered evacuations of 20 homes in the Wilderness/Chokeberry area of Hamlin Valley in Utah. The cause is unknown.

Turkey Farm Road Fire

The Turkey Farm Road Fire burning near Washington City in Washington County was caused by someone lighting illegal fireworks on July 13, authorities said. It has burned 11,993 acres and is 25% contained.

Veyo West Fire

The human-caused Veyo West Fire in Washington County has burned 2,900 acres and is zero percent contained. Some evacuations are still in place.
