CLEARFIELD, Utah – Three construction workers sustained minor injuries after a truck drove through a construction zone in Davis County early Tuesday.
“Really, really lucky because this could have been a lot worse than it is, but all the injuries as far as we know – nothing critical right now,” said Utah Highway Patrol Sgt. Rick Schrader who responded to the scene.
The crash happened at approximately 3:30 a.m. at milepost 336 on northbound I-15, just north of 650 North.
Utah Highway Patrol officials said the passenger in a white pickup truck called 911 to report the gas pedal was stuck. The vehicle ended up traveling through a construction area at a high rate of speed where it hit several barrels and three construction workers.

The truck then stopped when it hit the rear end of an SUV.
Troopers said witnesses reported the truck was possibly traveling up to 100 miles per hour.
Kolopa Akanesi Kulitea, 32, was arrested on investigation of DUI, possession of marijuana, and failing to stay in a lane.
Kulitea told officers that her accelerator pedal had become stuck and it caused her to lose control of the vehicle’s speed, according to an affidavit.
One of the workers was taken to the hospital by ambulance, and the other two were transported by a supervisor.
“When they come through this construction zone it becomes such a commonplace to see the barrels, the lights, people are just so used to it they still need to take this stuff serious and watch out because the people that are working, they’re real people, they’ve got homes to go to, slow it down,” said Schrader.
The workers’ identities are unknown, but officials report their injuries are minor. The passenger in the SUV was also transported to the hospital for injuries sustained in the collision, according to arresting documents.
