PARK CITY, Utah – Fireworks are now legal to use in some areas of Utah until 11 p.m. on July 25.
However, cities and municipalities can enforce their own fireworks code, and Park City has announced that fireworks will not be legal within the city limits.
“Effective immediately and in effect until further notice, fireworks, explosive devices and open fires are prohibited within Park City limits,” according to a statement from the city. “Residential BBQs and briquettes are the only exceptions. Violations of these restrictions may result in fines and cost recovery of fire-fighting expenses for negligently started fires.”
The move comes as muliple active wildfires burn across the state. In June, the Traverse Fire in Utah County forced evacuations and burned hundreds of acres. Authorities said that fire was caused by fireworks, and two teenagers have been charged in connection.
In Washington County, officials said fireworks were the cause of the Turkey Farm Road fire, which ended up burning nearly 12,000 acres.
