Troopers Working Extra Shifts This Weekend For DUI Enforcement

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – The Utah Highway Patrol announced it’s making sure the state’s highways are safe during the Pioneer Day weekend.
UHP on Twitter announced troopers will be out in force over the next few days to help make sure everyone gets where they’re going safely, and that includes stepping up DUI enforcement.
“Starting today, Troopers, officers and deputies throughout the state will be working 250 extra DUI enforcement shifts this weekend,” according to a UHP tweet. “If you plan on drinking, plan for a safe & sober ride home.”

On Monday, the Utah Highway Patrol shared a graphic showing the number of crashes in Utah involving an alcohol-related driver. The stats were from 2017, and they showed which holidays had the highest percentage of crashes.
According to the UHP’s numbers, Pioneer Day clocked in at No. 1, with 5.81% of holiday crashes involving an alcohol-related driver.
“Whether you celebrate it as #PioneerDay or #PieandBeerDay, plan ahead for a sober ride home,” UHP tweeted.
Memorial Day came in second, with 5.73% of crashes, and third was Easter, with 4.84%. Halloween had the very lowest percentage in 2017, with 2.3% of the crashes involving an alcohol-related driver.
