West Jordan Residents Speak About Officer-Involved Shooting That Left Suspect Dead
WEST JORDAN, Utah – Residents are speaking about their experience after an officer-involved shooting in West Jordan Sunday that left a suspect dead and an officer injured.
Police were originally called to the area after a report of a stolen truck.
Mike Doom said he saw the shooting.
“It’s Sunday, 8:15,” he said. “There are still people around getting ready for their week.”
Doom lives just 30 feet from where the truck was pulled over. He said he saw a man in the truck shoot at officers first.
“The rapid pop, pop, pop – 15 – 20 shots,” he said. “It was just so fast.”
A neighbor’s RING camera captured an exchange of gunfire. Doom’s wife recorded the scene on her phone.
“The passenger side door was open, and they had already started talking,” Doom said. “Then, the shots came. It happened just that fast.”
He said he watched one of the alleged suspects run down the sidewalk where he was apparently shot once. The man then ran into Doom’s yard, where he was shot again.
“The fact nobody’s house was shot up, nobody’s cars,” Doom said. “Thank goodness for them.”
Since the shooting involves a West Jordan officer, the Salt Lake City Police Department is investigating as part of the officer-involved critical incident protocol.
Multiple people were taken into custody.
