SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – Intermountain Healthcare said it is welcoming intensive care medical teams from New York City to return a favor from Utah at the height of the COVID-19 pandemic in the Empire State.
In mid-April, Intermountain Healthcare sent two teams of medical workers to New York City to help medical workers in, what was at the time, the nation’s largest COVID-19 hotspot.
In all, about 100 physicians, nurse practitioners and other medical professionals from Intermountain Healthcare served in New York City.
New York City Mayor Andrew Cuomo promised to reciprocate the deal once the NYC pandemic crisis subsided, which has happened.
Intermountain Healthcare said the first team from New York’s Northwell Health system is already in Utah.
Big welcome to 1st group of ICU nurses from @NorthwellHealth in NY who are in #Utah to work w/ @Intermountain as part of collaborative #COVID19 partnership. 100 Intermountain clinicians traveled to NY in April to assist hospitals there.

A news release said that despite projections, Utah is not experiencing a surge of coronavirus patients. But the visit will continue so the partnership between the two health care systems can continue by sharing the latest information and treatments for COVID-19 and non-COVID-19 patients.
Northwell Health treated more than 70,000 COVID-19 patients during the height of the pandemic in New York — more than any other health system in the nation, according to the news release.
The New York City workers will be in Utah for two weeks and will work at the ICU at the Intermountain Medical Center in Murray.
An official welcoming ceremony will take place Tuesday morning.
