SANDY, Utah – Officials are investigating an overnight structure fire at a Smith’s grocery store.
The incident happened at approximately 1 a.m. in the area of 2000 East and 9400 South.
Authorities said when crews arrived they saw a pile of “rubbish” and wooden pallets on fire underneath a tractor trailer in the loading dock.
Officials found out the trailer had fireworks in it, which began to explode.
Firefighters said the flames reached 100 – 200 feet. Smoke filled the rest of the shopping area, and the fire sprinklers activated in the loading dock area.
The trailer took most of the damage, officials said. The rest of the loading dock had only minor fire and water damage.
The cause of the fire is currently unknown, but investigators said they’re treating it as suspicious.
