Three Wildfires Start Sunday; 8 Total Fires Burning In Utah

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – Multiple wildfires started in Utah on Sunday, and on Monday, eight fires continued to burn.

The Cougar Fire in Beaver County, the Battle Creek Fire in Utah County and the Cowboy Fire in Sevier County all sparked Sundy, while the other fires have been burning for days or even weeks.

Here’s a breakdown of the state’s wildfires as reported by Utah Fire Info.

Cougar Fire

The Cougar Fire began Sunday afternoon at approximately 1:45 b.m. near Cougar Spar in Beaver County. It has burned 476 acres so far and is zero percent contained.

Officials report the fire was human-caused, and it is under investigation.

Cowboy Fire

The Cowboy Fire is burning near Salina in Sevier County. Officials estimate it has burned approximately 120 acres and is zero percent contained.

The wildfire is burning in rough terrain and is limiting firefighter access, authorities report.

The cause is unknown at this time.

Battle Creek Fire

In Utah County, the Battle Creek Fire is burning east of Pleasant Grove. It’s approximately 50 acres and is 10% contained.

The cause is under investigation.

Shingle Creek Fire

On Saturday, the human-caused Shingle Creek Fire sparked in Wasatch County and has burned between 20 – 30 acres. It is 5% contained according to the last report.

Richard Mountain Fire

The Richard Mountain Fire, which began Aug. 3 in Wyoming, has since grown to 7,632 acres and has burned into Daggett County. The wildfire is 90% contained and the cause is under investigation.

Upper Provo Wildfire

In Wasatch County, the Upper Provo Wildfire started July 31 about 22 miles east of Kamas. Authorities said it was human caused, and the incident is under investigation. At last report, it had burned 480 acres and is 84% contained.

Howell Peak Fire

In Millard County, the Howell Peak Fire has been burning since July 19. It is 1,885 acres and is now 100% contained.

Split Fire

The lightning-caused Split Fire has been burning since July 26. It has burned 18 acres in Uintah County and is now 40% contained.
