SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – A new online system has been announced to send the names of family or friends to the temple for placement on a prayer roll.
The First Presidency of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints made the announcement Tuesday. Requests can be made by visiting any temple’s information page and clicking on the prayer roll link.
A news release said requests can also be made through the “Temples” section of the Member Tools mobile app.

The app is now running for Android. The iOS version will be available on Sept. 1.
According to the Church’s website, members of many religions pray for loved ones and others dealing with illness or other crises. Scriptures describe examples of when Jesus Christ prayed in groups and admonished those also present to pray.
The website said the same practice is observed in the Church’s temples, where members can place names on what is called the “prayer roll.” Members then unite in faith and prayer asking God to bless the individuals named on the prayer rolls.
