BRASÍLIA, Brazil — A small groundbreaking ceremony was held for the Brasília Brazil Temple for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the country’s capital.
Attendance was limited Saturday because of COVID-19 restrictions.
Plans to build the temple were announced by late Church President Thomas S. Monson during General Conference in April 2017.
The Brasília Brazil Temple will be located on a six-acre site located at SGA/Notre Quadra 615 — Lote “C” in Brasília.
Officials said the single-story building will stand at approximately 25,000 square feet.
The new temple will become the country’s 10th operating temple, including the Belém Brazil, Campinas Brazil, Curitiba Brazil, Fortaleza Brazil, Manaus Brazil, Porto Alegre Brazil, Recife Brazil, Rio de Janeiro Brazil and São Paulo Brazil temples.
More than 1.4 million Latter-day Saints live in Brazil.
