Salt Lake County Library Branches Reopen; No Appointments Necessary

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – Officials with the Salt Lake County Library Services said their system has reopened, allowing users to check out books and take advantage of other services without appointments.
The phased-in reopening followed a county health order that shut down the libraries on March 13, along with other offices and businesses.
“The county library is a crucial resource for so many Salt Lake County residents, and I’m continually amazed at the way they’ve adapted their services this year,” said Salt Lake County Mayor Jenny Wilson. “They have worked tirelessly to maintain library access while focusing on the health and safety of the public.”

A news release said the Columbus branch has permanently closed ahead of schedule. People who used the branch will be able to use the new Granite branch, which was under construction and will open next year.
“We continually look for ways we can best serve the community, not only during this pandemic but for years to come,” library director Jim Cooper said. “It’s exciting to see the Granite branch take shape.”
Library hours are 11 a.m. to 7 p.m., Monday through Thursday and Friday-Saturday 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Branches are limiting the number allowed inside at one time due to social distancing. Face masks are also required.
The state has a comprehensive website explaining restrictions and listing resources available during the pandemic.
