HERRIMAN, Utah – A Herriman neighborhood is on high alert after a man pulled a gun on a woman while she was jogging Monday morning.
The incident happened on Rosecrest Drive, which is a popular spot for runners because it’s so well-lit. Officers with the Herriman Police Department said the woman was running past a meetinghouse of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints at 14000 South when the man jumped out from behind a large utility box.
According to police, he pointed the gun at her and said, “Hey.” She kept running to a nearby neighborhood where she was able to contact authorities.
“No shots were ever fired,” said Commander Zach Adams with the Herriman Police Department. “The victim was never injured.”
People living in the area said it’s scary to have something like this happen so close to home.
“It’s just so devastating that happened here in our neighborhood,” said Shelly Stricker, who’s lived off of Rosecrest for nearly 20 years.
Stu Nelson’s yard backs-up to the church. He said he heard something this morning, but no screaming or struggling. He thought it was likely a cleaning crew.
“I just thought it was something moving in the church parking lot, like a janitorial service or something,” he said.
Herriman police now have extra patrols on the street as a precaution and would love to hear from anyone that could have information to help them find the person responsible.
