West Jordan Dad Creates High-Tech Alternative To Trick Or Treating

WEST JORDAN, Utah – Amid the spike in COVID-19 cases, things are looking different for Utahns celebrating Halloween this year.
A dad in West Jordan has come up with an alternative to trick or treating. It’s more than painting decorations and setting up lights for Josh Monson. He put his work skills to fun use to make this an interactive light show accessible at your finger tips.
“This Halloween is going to be different,” he said. “Everything is going to be different this year.”
Josh’s wife and his five children are used to going all out for Halloween. This year took some creativity.
With 2020 being as spooky as it is, the Monsons weren’t going to let it take the fun out of the holiday.
Josh is a software engineer, and he created the “Perky Pumpkins” for this year’s Halloween. The pumpkins sing and tell jokes. Josh even hired voice actors to bring them to life.
The real magic, though was done in the Monson’s garage, where the alternative to trick or treating was born.
“This is my fun,” Josh said.
He coded the whole program. Passersby scan the QR code with their phones and then choose the entertainment.
Drive-by light shows like Josh’s are a great alternative to trick or treating. The Red Cross is recommending families celebrate Halloween with activities such as these rather than going door to door.
