SPANISH FORK, Utah – The body of a missing 28-year-old man from Spanish Fork has been recovered, according to Sgt. Spencer Cannon with the Utah County Sheriff’s Office.
Cannon said Dayne Brady Stone was reported missing after family members said he went to ride his side-by-side Wednesday morning but did not return.
Friends and family searched nearby canyons but did not located Stone and called police. Officials with the Spanish Fork Police Department contacted Stone’s cell phone provider, and a ping from his phone placed him in an area near Salem, Utah.
Cannon said search and rescue crews were called in and pilots located what they believed to be the wreckage of a side-by-side in a ravine in Water Canyon.
“From evidence with the side-by-side and around the area, it appeared Dayne was driving along a steep, narrow trail more than 100 yards above where he was found,” officials said. “It appeared he may have hit a rock on the trail which caused the side-by-side to go over the edge and roll multiple times into the ravine.”
Officials said Stone was wearing a seatbelt but was still ejected from the vehicle and was likely killed on impact as he rolled down the mountainside.
The side-by-side was completely destroyed in the crash.
