MIDVALE, Utah – Detectives were seeking whoever was responsible for a shooting that left a woman dead and a man seriously injured.

Sgt. Melody Cutler with the Unified Police Department said dispatchers received a call around 5:30 p.m. Friday about an assault with a weapon, which quickly turned into a shots fired call.

When officers arrived, Cutler said they found a woman in her 30s dead near the Tru by Hilton hotel, located at 6962 South Bingham Junction Boulevard.

Cutler said a 36-year-old man ran into the neighboring WinCo Foods, at 7020 South 700 West, with gunshot wounds.

Workers were attempting to apply tourniquets to the man, according to Cutler, and an officer also began to assist until medical teams arrived.

“It was definitely necessary, so great on their part to think of that, and to take that immediate, quick action and apply that medical care is awesome, awesome work on their part,” Cutler said.

The man was transported to Intermountain Medical Center in serious condition with injuries that were not considered life-threatening, police said.

Investigators were looking for a man and woman witnesses said were spotted running northwest toward the Topgolf, located at 920 West Jordan River Boulevard. Cutler said the man was believed to be wearing dark clothing and the woman was wearing a floral top and jeans.

Cutler said police were separately seeking a 2005 white Cadillac CTS that was spotted leaving the area.

It remained unclear whether the man and woman or the vehicle were somehow connected to the crime or if perhaps they had witnessed something, according to Cutler.

Anyone with information in the case was asked to call the Unified Police Department at 801-743-7000.

A large police presence responded to the area. The victims were not identified and no cause for the shooting had been released.
