11 More Utahns Die Of COVID-19 As Thanksgiving Holiday Approaches

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – With less than two days before Thanksgiving, Utah reported 2,701 people have tested positive for COVID-19 and another 11 have died as a result of the virus.

The state’s virus death toll is now 808.

Currently, 552 people are hospitalized with COVID-19.

Authorities have urged Utahns to celebrate the holiday with people in their immediate households only in an effort to prevent a surge in new cases – which could lead to more hospitalizations in an already overwhelmed system.

Testing

The Utah Department of Health on Tuesday reported a total of 1,367,935 residents have been tested so far, which is an increase of 15,528 tests from Monday’s report.

Of those, a total of 182,121 have tested positive for COVID-19. That’s an increase of 2,701 cases from yesterday.

The rolling seven-day average for positive tests is 3,281 per day, and the rolling seven-day average for percent of positive laboratory tests is 23%.

The seven-day average for percent of positive tests has continuously decreased since Nov. 10, when it reached an all-time high of 24.75%.

Hospitalizations

Currently, 552 patients are hospitalized for COVID-19, and 201 of those are in intensive care units. Another 13 people are currently hospitalized with suspected cases of COVID-19.

In addition to the state’s percent of positive tests slowly ticking downward, Utah’s ICU occupancy has also decreased slightly.

The state’s ICU beds are currently 82.2% full, which brings the occupancy below the 85% threshold for quality care.

In the state’s 16 hospitals that are best equipped for COVID-19 care, the ICUs are at 86.2% capacity. While that number is just above the threshold for quality care, it is a drop from Monday’s numbers, when the beds were nearly 92% full.

Deaths

Authorities reported 11 more Utahns have lost their lives as a direct result of Covid-19.

On Tuesday, the following individuals’ deaths were reported:

  1. Male, older than 85, Morgan County resident, hospitalized at time of death
  2. Female, between 65-84, Utah County resident, not hospitalized at time of death
  3. Male, older than 85, Duchesne County resident, long-term care facility resident
  4. Female, between 65-84, Davis County resident, hospitalized at time of death
  5. Male, between 65-84, Utah County resident, hospitalized at time of death
  6. Male, between 45-64, Wasatch County resident, hospitalized at time of death
  7. Female, between 65-84, Salt Lake County resident, not hospitalized at time of death
  8. Female, between 65-84, Weber County resident, hospitalized at time of death
  9. Female, between 65-84, Davis County resident, unknown whether hospitalized at time of death
  10. Female, between 45-64, Davis County resident, hospitalized at time of death
  11. Male, between 45-64, Box Elder County resident, hospitalized at time of death
