SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – Utah health officials on Wednesday reported 26 more people have lost their lives because of COVID-19.

It’s the highest number of deaths reported in a single day so far.

An additional 1,781 people tested positive for the virus.

Currently, 570 people are hospitalized with COVID-19.

The Utah Department of Health’s COVID-19 dashboard will not be updated on Thanksgiving Day, and most testing sites will be closed. Many testing sites will also be running on reduced schedules over the holiday weekend.

Testing

The Utah Department of Health reported 1,380,997 people have been tested so far, which is an increase of 13,062 from yesterday.

Of those, a total of 183,902 have tested positive for the virus. That’s an increase of 1,781 cases from Tuesday.

The rolling seven-day average for positive tests is 3,113 per day. The rolling seven-day average for percent of positive laboratory tests is 22% – a number which has been slowly but steadily declining since Nov. 10.

Hospitalizations

There are currently 570 people with COVID-19 being treated in Utah hospitals, and 207 of those are in intensive care units.

The state’s ICU beds are 82.1% occupied, which has dropped below the state’s threshold for quality care. That threshold is 85% occupancy.

The ICU beds in Utah’s referral centers are 86.8% occupied. Referral Centers are the 16 hospitals in Utah with the capability to provide the best care for patients with COVID-19. Because most patients are transferred to these facilities, their utilization is the best reflection of the true hospital capacity in Utah when looking at ICU beds.

UDOH reports 54.3% of all non-ICU beds are full.
