Big Cottonwood Canyon Closed Due To Multiple Crashes; Unified Police Car Hit While Responding

COTTONWOOD HEIGHTS, Utah – Crews with the Utah Department of Transportation closed state Route 190 at the mouth of Big Cottonwood Canyon Thursday evening due to multiple crashes in the canyon.
Sgt. Melody Cutler with the Unified Police Department said the canyon “is a mess” due to poor road conditions and at least two crashes.

A Unified police vehicle was struck responding to a crash, but Melody said the officer was not injured.
Crews said they expect the canyon to be closed through 7:30 p.m. as they clear the crashes. Downhill traffic was being allowed to leave the canyon.
