Pastor Delivers Gifts From His ‘Acts Of Kindness’ Truck In Chicago

CHICAGO – Ill – This holiday, pastor Earl Grandberry in Chicago is blessing those in need.
With his Acts of Kindness Truck, the pastor is hitting the streets to meet the enormous need of the season.
One of his first stops on Saturday was on the city’s west side at the home of a public school worker.
“It makes a big difference being a single parent right now,” said Chicago public school worker Tyrie Spurlock.
Grandberry left behind a lucrative insurance sales career to start True Rock Ministries 38 years ago. With the help of donors and sponsors, he said he’s been taking his effort to deliver hope on the road.
However, it’s because of the pandemic he started his “Put it on the porch” effort.
“God just laid it on my heart,” he said. “‘You do it.'”
The already existing commitment to ease the burden of others went into overdrive the weekend after Thanksgiving. Since then, hundreds of families have benefited. This recent weekend was no different, with another Saturday of giving.
“We have coats and toys, but it depends on if they need toys, there’s toys in the bag,” Grandberry said. “There’s clothes, they get a turkey and a meal for about three to four kids.”
This Act of Kindness brought a woman to tears after someone she knows told the church about her struggle.
Grandberry said you don’t have to be a member of his church to be blessed. You just have to be in need – like widow Latrice Applewhite, who cares for her eight children and her granddaughter alone.
“I used to work full time, but now I work part time,” she said. “But I still got a job. That’s what matters.”
The family got a Christmas dinner and a little something extra.
Grandberry said his Acts of Kindness Truck will be going to various neighborhoods throughout Chicago until Christmas Eve.
