Utah Theaters Top Country For Two Christmas Blockbuster Releases

SANDY, Utah – Two Megaplex theater locations in Utah had the top movie openings in the country for two major blockbusters released Christmas week.
“Wonder Woman 1984” at the Megaplex Theatres at The District in South Jordan was No. 1 in North America. At the same time, Megaplex Theatres at Jordan Commons in Sandy was No.1 for the opening of “News of the World,” a western that stars Tom Hanks.
A news release from the Megaplex group of theaters showed Utah’s appetite for the new movies was also very strong at other locations.

“Wonder Woman 1984” was available for streaming on HBO Max at the same time the movie premiered in theaters. It will be available on HBOMax until Jan. 24, HBOMax.com said.
“Wonder Woman 1984” set the record for the highest-grossing movie during the pandemic at $16.7 million.
There are no plans announced for streaming “News of the World.” The other big holiday movie was Pixar’s “Soul,” which streamed on Disney+.
