SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – The Utah Department of Health on Wednesday announced 21 additional Utahns have lost their lives because of COVID-19.
Another 2,614 have tested positive.
There are currently 484 people hospitalized with the virus, and 23,970 doses of the vaccine have been administered so far.
Testing
UDOH reported a total of 1,714,591 people have been tested for COVID-19 so far, which is an increase of 9,139 people tested since Tuesday.
Of those, a total of 271,940 have tested positive for the virus. That’s an increase of 2,614 cases from yesterday’s report.
The rolling seven-day average for positive tests is 2,033 per day, and the rolling seven-day average for percent of positive laboratory tests has ticked up to 25%.
Hospitalizations
There are currently 484 people hospitalized with confirmed cases of COVID-19, and 156 of those are in intensive care units. Another 53 people are hospitalized with suspected cases of COVID-19.
Utah’s ICUs are 81.3% occupied, which is slightly lower than the state’s threshold for quality ICU care. However, the ICU beds in the state’s referral centers are 85.4% full, which means they’re operating at functional capacity due to the number of caregivers available.
Referral Centers are the 16 hospitals in Utah with the capability to provide the best care for patients with COVID-19. Because most patients are transferred to these facilities, their utilization is the best reflection of the true hospital capacity in Utah when looking at ICU beds.
