A Honda Civic was traveling northbound on U.S. Highway 189, according to Cpl. Nick Street with the Utah Highway Patrol, when it drifted off the road. The driver overcorrected, crossed over into oncoming traffic and sideswiped a Subaru Cross Trek, causing the Honda to spin.
A Toyota Sienna minivan traveling southbound then hit the Honda on the driver side.
The 17-year-old driver, who was the only occupant in the vehicle, was pronounced dead on the scene. Troopers identified the driver as Jackson A. Keate, of Highland, on Sunday.
No one in the Subaru was injured in the crash, according to DPS officials, while the five passengers of the minivan were transported to the hospital with injuries that were not considered life-threatening.
Both directions of U.S. 189 were closed just one mile south of Charleston Road for several hours.
All lanes reopened around 4:30 p.m. Friday.
