SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – Rep. Chris Stewart on Monday announced he would not vote to certify the election for President-Elect Joe Biden.
In a series of tweets, Stewart wrote that he believes there are “critical questions that need to be answered concerning our Presidential election.”
Rep. Burgess Owens has also stated he will object to the certification of the presidential election results.
The Electoral College votes will be counted Wednesday. They are also expected to be certified.
The unprecedented attempt to overturn the election results has support from about a dozen senators and close to 100 representatives. It’s also facing severe backlash from fellow Republicans.
Sen. Mitt Romney is part of a bipartisan group that released a statement that reads in part that the objection efforts are “contrary to the clearly expressed will of the American people and only serve to undermine Americans’ confidence in the already determined election results.”
There has been no evidence of widespread voter fraud.
