Spencer Cox Sworn In As 18th Governor Of Utah

IVINS, Utah – Utah’s newest governor has officially been sworn into office.
Gov. Spencer Cox and Lt. Gov. Deidre Henderson both took the oath of office during an outdoor ceremony held at the Tuacahn Center for the Arts in Ivins.
The amphitheater allowed for social distancing, and attendees were required to have a negative COVID test 24 hours prior to the event.
Cox is Utah’s 18th governor, and Henderson is the state’s ninth lieutenant governor.
Utah Supreme Court Justice Paige Petersen also administered the oath of office to Attorney General Sean Reyes, State Treasurer David Damschen, and Utah State Auditor John Dougall.

Cox spoke about the pandemic and the year 2020 and the lessons Utah has learned so far. The governor noted that our society is as smart as ever, but people are susceptible to misinformation.
He also said there are dangerous divisions, calling it a “crisis of empathy.”
Henderson also gave an inaugural address.
