Suspect Taken Into Custody After SWAT Situation Near Rose Park

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – There was a heavy police presence – including a SWAT team – in an area near Rose Park early Friday morning.

Roads in the area of 400 North between Star Crest Drive and New Star Drive were blocked off for hours as multiple law enforcement vehicles lined the streets. Police said they received a call about a fight at approximately 2:30 a.m. One person was barricaded inside an RV-type vehicle after allegedly assaulting another person.

The victim’s injuries are non-life threatening, officials said.

A negotiator was called to the scene and remained there throughout the morning.

Salt Lake City police said the suspect eventually surrendered and was taken into custody without incident. Authorities later identified him as Jacob Mills, 32.

Mills was booked into jail on suspicion of aggravated assault, possession of a weapon by a restricted person, and obstruction.
