SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – The number of new jobless claims in Utah last week stayed relatively the same as the week before.
According to the Utah Department of Workforce Services, 4,557 Utahns filed for new benefits last week. The week prior, 4,535 workers filed for first-time jobless benefits.
The number of continued claims was up from the week before, though. Last week, 34,752 residents filed for continued claims, compared to 32,462 the previous week.
“With the federally-funded extended unemployment benefits, we continue to see a high volume of claims and benefits being paid out to support Utahns through this pandemic,” said Kevin Burt, Unemployment Insurance Division director for the Utah Department of Workforce Services. “It is critical to remember that the extended benefits are currently set to expire on March 13, 2020; actively looking for work remains critical and Utah’s diverse economy offers a variety of employment opportunities.”
About 779,000 Americans filed for new unemployment benefits last week, down from 812,000 the previous week.
