SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – Even though there won’t be big Super Bowl parties this year, you can still have some fun foods with your family to watch the big game.
“Use it as an opportunity to teach your kids about food safety,” said Laura Scott with the USDA. “You can have a food safety game plan for the game. Before the game, for the pre-game warmup, make sure you wash your hands, that your kitchen is clean, make sure you have a food thermometer handy.”
Scott said every day should be like Super Bowl Sunday to make sure food is safe to eat – and to make sure leftovers get the treatment they deserve.
Foodborne illness sends 128,000 people to the hospital every year, and you don’t want anyone in your family to get sick.
Scott said halftime shouldn’t just be the time to watch The Weeknd perform. It should be a time to retire the first half hors d’oeuvres and reset the food you’re going to eat for the second half, and make sure it’s safe to consume.
