OGDEN, Utah – Friday’s fresh powder is something skiers and snowboarders have been looking forward to.
One of the first areas hit by the morning storm was SnowBasin in Ogden Canyon.
“Man, we’re having awesome powder up here,” said skier Jim Wheatley. “It’s going to be awesome!”
He added that having the fresh snow to ski in was “euphoric” and “like floating through the clouds.”
SnowBasin has been Wheatley’s go-to since 1965. As for this year, he said it’s not too late for a great season.
The resort isn’t letting this year’s dry spell get to them. With enhanced COVID safety measures in place, the facilities were ready for the skiers.
“We’re actually just 50% of the way through the winter season,” said Davy Ratchford, SnowBasin Resort general manager. “So we have a lot more skiing to go, so we encourage everyone to get out in the mountains.
Meanwhile, the Utah Avalanche Center is warning the danger is high in Logan and Ogden areas. Officials suggest staying off slopes steeper than 30 degrees and backcountry areas.
