SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – Struggling veterans are getting a little extra help thanks to the Salt Lake Veteran Court.
The 18-month program helps veterans who were honorably discharged but then ran into trouble with the law. Many of them are suffering from PTSD or traumatic brain injuries.
The program works to address the root causes of criminal conduct by pairing veterans with mentors who help them find the assistance they need.
“It’s a wonderful thing to see, especially after seeing the way that some of them come into court,” said mentor Keith Alan Brown.
The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints also helps connect them to food, clothing and furniture.
