SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – Forecasters with the Utah Avalanche Center have issued a backcountry warning for the mountains of northern Utah.
The warning went into effect at 7 a.m. Saturday and lasts through 6 a.m. Sunday.
Officials said there were large natural avalanches overnight, and human-triggered and more natural avalanches are likely.

Forecasters also recommended avoiding backcountry travel in the Logan zone, where avalanches are likely at all elevations.
“Buried persistent weak layers consisting of sugary faceted snow are widespread across the Logan Zone, and the serious threat of large and deadly avalanches failing on weak snow near the ground is quite real,” they said.
