SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – As Utah vaccinations expand and case counts continue to drop, Westminster College in Salt Lake City announced it is anticipating fall 2021 classes will include a return to the classroom for students and faculty.

A news release from the private college said, “Assuming vaccine distribution continues and transmission rates keep dropping, students will once again share in the many college experiences and traditions that make Westminster special.

The college anticipated it will house more students in residence halls, host speakers and resume on-campus activities like games and performances.

The release cautioned that the campus may still take COVID-19  precautions, such as requiring face masks and limited gatherings. The school may also use online instruction as needed.

“Westminster remains committed to a personalized and transformative educational experience that is both safe and abundant with in-person living and learning opportunities, President Beth Dobkin said. “I look forward to seeing you on campus, at events, and in the community. It’s time to be together again.”

How do I prevent it?

The CDC has some simple recommendations, most of which are the same for preventing other respiratory illnesses or the flu:

  • Avoid close contact with people who may be sick
  • Avoid touching your face
  • Stay home when you are sick
  • Cover your cough or sneeze with a tissue and then throw the tissue in the trash
  • Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds, especially after going to the bathroom, before eating, and after blowing your nose, coughing or sneezing. Always wash your hands with soap and water if your hands are visibly dirty.
  • If soap and water are not readily available, use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer with at least 60% alcohol.

The CDC recommends wearing cloth face coverings in public settings where other social distancing measures are difficult to maintain (e.g., grocery stores and pharmacies), especially in areas of significant community-based transmission.
