WEST VALLEY CITY, Utah – Police took a man into custody following a deadly shooting in West Valley City.
The man reportedly told officers it was an act of self defense, though authorities dispute that claim.
The incident happened shortly before 12:45 a.m. Tuesday in the area of 1500 West and Claybourne Avenue.
“About 15 minutes to 1 o’clock, we received a call of a gunshot wound here behind us,” said West Valley City Police Lt. Bill Merritt, who was speaking at the crime scene.
West Valley City Police Lt. Bill Merritt said the 58-year-old male suspect and the 60-year-old male victim knew each other.
“There may have been some intoxication involved,” he said.
Police later identified the victim as Troy Frampton and the suspect as Glen Hogue.
Hogue told police the two had been arguing when Frampton allegedly attacked him. Hogue said that’s when he shot Frampton, who died at the scene.
“West Valley City investigators worked through the night gathering evidence and conducting interviews,” according to a statement from the department. “The evidence and information gathered through the investigation does not support the claim of self defense and Glen Hogue has been booked into the Salt Lake County Jail for homicide.”
Police said Hogue is cooperating with the investigation.
The identities of the two men have not been released. Further information wasn’t immediately available.
