BEAVER, Utah — A 5-year-old girl was killed in a three-car crash on I-15 in Iron County.
The incident happened near mile 93, 15 miles south of Beaver, around 3:48 p.m. Sunday.
According to a press release from the Utah Department of Public Safety, there was some tire debris in the travel lanes which affected three cars.
An Infiniti QX50 slowed down to avoid hitting the debris, while a Mazda CX-9 that was in the process of slowing down was struck by a Toyota Tacoma trying to change lanes.
The impact pushed the Mazda forward, causing it to hit the back of the Infinity.
A 5-year-old girl, who was a passenger in the Mazda, sustained fatal injuries, even though she was in a forward-facing child restraint seat.
Troopers are investigating a crash south of Beaver on I-15. Unfortunately this crash has resulted in fatal injuries. Please drive safe as we get into Spring vacations over the next few weeks. More details will be provided shortly.

Officials said all of the other occupants in the vehicles were wearing seat belts and did not have serious injuries.
Utah Highway Patrol spokesman Chris Bishop said two helicopters were called in to transport patients.
Northbound I-15 was temporarily closed near exit 82 so the incident could be investigated.
All lanes of traffic reopened just after 6:45 p.m.
Update: All lanes are now open. Expect delay and use caution.
