OGDEN, Utah – Officials with the Ogden Police Department have identified Seth Gibson, 34, as the gunman who shot and killed his former girlfriend in a grocery store parking lot Saturday.

After the shooting, Gibson fled the scene in an SUV. Officers confronted him at a home a few miles away from the store and SWAT members negotiated with him for several hours before he shot himself.

Gibson was hospitalized in critical condition and died from his injuries Tuesday, police said.

On Friday, police identified the victim as Mindee Lavell Elmore, 41, a single mother, and called the situation a case of domestic violence.

One of Elmore’s friends told KSL she broke up with Gibson about a year ago when quarantine started.

Elmore’s family released this statement:

“Mindee was a loving, caring, independent woman. She loved her child and family. She was a hard worker and always knew how to crack a joke. She was always laughing and smiling.”
