ROY, Utah – Police are investigating the death of a man in Roy, saying it appears it was a homicide.
Sgt. Matthew Gwynn with the Roy Police Department said the investigation started when Ogden police responded to a “cardiac arrest” in a parking lot at 3200 Orchard Avenue on April 13.
“During their investigation, they learned that the homicide occurred in Roy and made contact with the homicide task force and our agency,” he said.
An autopsy conducted on April 14 determined 38-year-old Steve Bailey of Roy, had been shot in the head, according to a news release.

Bailey had been in an argument over money with his friend, 48-year old Daniel Johnson who is also from Roy.
Police said the argument happened on Saturday, April 10 at Johnson’s home in the Midland Community in Roy on C Street.
Neighbors told KSL’s Felicia Martinez they heard a “boom” over the weekend.
“Saturday night, we all woke up … and we all met in the living room and we heard this loud ‘clash,’” neighbor Tanner Hillman said. “We were not sure what it was, and we all came out and it was just eerie quiet. Normally you hear dogs or something, but there was no noise at all.”
The news release said, “It was reported that there were three children between the ages of 9-15 in the home at the time of the shooting. They are safe and with their mother.”
Police believe Johnson put Bailey’s body in his car and drove him to the Ogden parking.
Police later picked up Johnson and arrested him.
He was booked into the Weber County Jail on charges that include murder, desecration of a body, obstruction of justice, and possession of a firearm by a restricted person.
The Roy City Police Department thanked the Weber County Homicide Task Force, Weber County Crime Scene Investigations team, and Ogden City Police Department for helping with the investigation.
