HURRICANE, Utah — Three horses died after they were hit while crossing state Route 9 in Washington County.
The incident happened around 10:25 p.m. Friday.
Lt. David Crouse with the Washington County Sheriff’s Office said two cars were traveling westbound on S.R. 9 in an unlit area when they came across a pack of six horses crossing the road.
Both vehicles attempted to brake, according to Crouse, but the first vehicle hit two horses and the second vehicle hit a third horse.
All three of those horses passed away.
Crouse said one driver was transported to the hospital with minor injuries.
The animals have been identified as belonging to a local ranch owner.
The incident remains under investigation.
