Teenagers Describe Terrifying Close Call With Train In Morgan County

MOUNTAIN GREEN, Utah – Two teenage girls said they were lucky to be alive after stopping to take some pictures put them on a collision course with a train.

They said just looking out for a train is not enough. At times, it’s easier to hear the water below than it is to hear the train crossing the bridge where the incident happened in Morgan County.

The bridge has become a popular spot for pictures.

“It was terrifying,” Aubrey Evans said. “I didn’t know what to do.”

She watched her close friend, Jayden Bevan, fall off the bridge Wednesday.

“I saw (the train) coming, and Audrey told me to run,” Bevan said. “We heard the horn, and it was a lot closer than I think we both thought.”

By the time they said it coming around the bend, there just wasn’t enough time to react.

“I don’t remember crawling off the edge,” Bevan said. “I just remember looking down off the edge and thinking, like, ‘There’s no more water (below).”

Her foot initially got stuck but she managed to free it. The train clipped her right leg on the way down.

Her arm broke in two places.

“We know a ton of people that have taken pictures up there and been completely fine, but we weren’t, you know,” she said.

“Yeah, just don’t do it. It’s not worth it,” Evans agreed.

Both were grateful for the first responders, as well as the fisherman who called for help, and the train conductor.

“Just to see how much pain he was going through because he was sitting at my feet, making sure I was okay,” Bevan said.

Firefighters with the Mountain Green Fire Protection District said people taking pictures on the tracks have been a constant problem.

More no trespassing signs were added to the area Thursday.
