WEST VALLEY CITY, Utah — Two workers were shocked by electricity while working in West Valley City. Police said they were transported to the hospital to be treated for their injuries.
The incident happened near 4390 South and Constitution Boulevard (2700 West) around 4 p.m. Saturday.
Lt. Manfred Lassig with the Unified Police Department said two workers with Wasatch Electric were up in a basket, changing out some lines on poles, when something went wrong.
“As they were working, all of the sudden one of them arched out, became real stiff and then non-responsive,” said Lassig. “The other person thought he felt that he got shocked.”
The two men were brought down in the basket.
One of the workers pulled the non-responsive man out and immediately started CPR.
Fire crews then arrived on scene, according to Lassig, and transported the man to Intermountain Medical Center in extremely critical condition.
Lassig said the man was alive and had a heartbeat going as of the last report he received.
The second worker was taken to Intermountain Medical Center in poor condition.
“He’s the one who started the CPR on the other one, so he worked through what injuries he had to render first aid on his coworker,” said Lassig.
Detectives have opened an investigation into the incident.
The workers’ identities have not been released.
