Police: SWAT Responding To South Ogden Home After Suspect Fires Shots At Police

Jun 30, 2021, 8:41 AM | Updated: 1:58 pm

SOUTH OGDEN, Utah — SWAT teams and officers from multiple agencies have responded to a South Ogden home after a suspect from a domestic assault incident opened fire on police, according to authorities.

Sgt. David Labbe with the South Ogden Police Department said officers were called to an area hospital Tuesday evening to investigate an alleged domestic assault incident that left three people injured.

Police said they believe the suspect, a 56-year-old man, is related to the victims and felony assault charges are pending.

Officers arrived at the home near 4500 Country View Drive around 9 p.m. Tuesday to question the suspect, but they were not able to contact him.

Labbe said officers returned to the home with a signed search warrant and SWAT after learning the man had a firearm.

SWAT members began negotiating with the suspect, but those talks ended when the suspect fired shots at officers around midnight Wednesday.

“At about midnight, quarter after midnight the individual opened fire on the officers,” Labbe said.

Officers returned fire, and Labbe said shots were exchanged periodically throughout the night.

A shelter-in-place order has been issued for homes within a quarter-mile radius due to the volume of shots fired by the suspect.

“When I was walking over the school park you could hear them on the loudspeakers saying his name and to call 911 and they’re here to help you,” South Ogden Cindy Yorgason resident said.

Authorities and could not confirm if the suspect had been injured and did not have an update on his condition, and no officers had been injured.

Brigham City, Layton and Ogden Metro SWAT members had responded to the scene.

This is a developing story. It will be updated as new information becomes available.
