WASATCH COUNTY, Utah — A trucker said another driver shot at him as he was transporting butane near Strawberry Reservoir.
The man, who asked not to be identified, said he was heading eastbound on U.S. Highway 40 around 5 a.m. Monday when he noticed an SUV tailgating him.
“He moved out left to pass me and he got alongside the cab,” the trucker recalled in a Wednesday interview with KSL TV.
The trucker said he wasn’t nervous until the SUV continued alongside him for about a half-mile and even crossed some double yellow lines to stay even with the truck.
“I thought I heard a rock flip up from underneath the truck,” he said. “A couple seconds later, my driver’s side window exploded.”
The trucker said after another pop, he realized the driver was shooting at him.

“When the shot came through the window, it broke the mic to the CB and up in the headliner there is a hole,” he said.
He believed the driver fired at least two shots before slowly pulling away.
“I can’t believe that this is what everything’s come to — like people are shooting at people for just doing their job,” the trucker said.
He described the suspected shooter as lighter-skinned with dark hair and a medium build driving a silver SUV — possibly a Hyundai Santa Fe or a Honda Pilot.
A spokesperson for Utah Highway Patrol said investigators were looking into the matter. Anybody with information was asked to contact dispatch at 801-887-3800.
The trucker said he hoped that the other driver may have talked afterward to someone and that somebody else knows about what happened. He urged anyone who knows something about the case to call UHP.
“I’ve got a family at home that I want to go home at night and I don’t want to have to worry about getting shot just for driving down the road,” he said.
