SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – The drought, the heat, and fear of fireworks left fire departments and residents on edge across Utah this Independence Day Weekend.
Salt Lake City is no exception and that’s why the Salt Lake City Fire Marshall ordered a ban on all fireworks in the city.
Firefighters handed out education flyers in the Rose Park neighborhood Friday and spoke to residents about the firework restrictions.
“This year we feel like the hazard is not only in the urban interface areas,” said Chief Karl Lieb, Salt Lake Fire Department. “It is also in the core of the city and through all the neighborhoods. Backyards, front yards, it’s risky.”
Residents face criminal charges and stiff fines if they are caught setting off banned fireworks.
