KEARNS, Utah — Officials with the Unified Police Department said a 23-year-old man was shot and killed in Kearns Tuesday night.
The shooting happened on Impressions Drive near 5600 South.
UPD Sgt. Melody Cutler said the victim, who was identified Wednesday as Fernando Amaya-Higareda, of Kearns, was driving near North Park when the suspects approached him.
“There were shots fired, and that male driving that truck was struck by that gunfire,” Cutler said. “His vehicle rolled southbound, where it came to a rest in the park.”
Amaya-Higareda was pronounced dead at the scene.
Police said the suspects fled the scene, but officers were able to find them and take them into custody with some help from witnesses.
Cutler said the male suspects are 16 and 17 years old.
Investigators are working to figure out their exact relationship and the motive, but they said this wasn’t a random shooting.
