Highway 89 Interchange In Davis County Opens Monday

FRUIT HEIGHTS, Utah — After months of bottlenecks and traffic backups, a busy interchange in Davis County is finally set to reopen.
Many people that have traveled along U.S. Highway 89 know that it was a lot of stop and go waiting at lights.
Well, that will change.
One of the interchanges opening Monday is located at 400 North in Fruit Heights.
Another one will be opening the same day at 200 North in Kaysville.

Crews got rid of lights and added in four interchanges with two bridges.
That was done to accommodate growing populations in Layton and Kaysville.
“It should improve the commute times, depending on what time of day you come through — 5 or 10 minutes or more,” said Rob Wright with the Utah Department of Transportation. “It’s really going to improve the commute times for folks coming to and from Salt Lake City.
The project, which comes with a hefty price tag, is set to be finished by 2023.
There is $360 million in new construction and a total price tag of $527 million that UDOT has put into U.S. 89.
Officials said they needed it because they see about 48,000 cars a day on this road.
So once it is all complete, it will be smooth sailing from here.
