STOCKTON, Utah – Water restrictions are in place while crews work to repair Stockton’s main water system.

Heavy rain caused Soldier Creek to overflow its banks on Sunday, filling the system with debris and mud.

Residents will have to rely on the backup system, which runs on a generator, while crews clean out nearly 2 miles of pipe that are only accessible by ATV. Floods washed out the access road as well.

“We are operating on our backup well, and the backup well is run by a generator. That’s one of the reasons why we have put the town of water restrictions, so we don’t overrun the generator to short out,” said Chief Travis Romney with the Stockton Police Department.

All residents were being asked to conserve and skip using irrigation water. Watering animals and water for household use is acceptable.

The Stockton mayor and town council held an emergency meeting Wednesday night to talk about the water restrictions.
