FARMINGTON, Utah — A 57-year-old man died after he was found unresponsive at the Davis County Jail, authorities said.
Officials with the Davis County Sheriff’s Office said deputies found the man in his cell shortly before midnight on Sunday, just three days after he was booked into custody.
“In accordance with policy, correctional deputies conducted hourly safety and security rounds to check on the male individual and others in our care and custody. It was during this time that the male was found unresponsive,” read a press release from DSCO.
Lifesaving efforts were quickly administered, but the man was later pronounced dead.
An autopsy is still being conducted by the state medical examiner, but officials said the death appears to be the result of a medical issue.
The incident remains under investigation.
Officials said the man’s family has been notified, but the DSCO will not be releasing his name.
