LAKEPOINT, Utah — A 26-year-old man has been taken into custody after authorities said he entered a home and barricaded himself in the bathroom after allegedly stealing a motorcycle.
Officials with the Tooele County Sheriff’s Office said officers were dispatched to a motel in Lakepoint in reference to a suspicious man who was in possession of a stolen motorcycle on Wednesday.
The suspect, who was later identified as Karie Williams, of Tooele, fled on foot but deputies were able to locate him in a nearby residential area.
Officials said Williams saw officers and ran into a resident’s yard, then entered the home through an unlocked back door.
“After entering the home, the suspect confronted the homeowners and told them to be quiet, then fled down a hallway,” officials said.
A SWAT team and a negotiator responded to the home after deputies said Williams barricaded himself inside a bathroom.
“After repeated negotiations failed, entry was made into the bathroom at which time the suspect was taken into custody without incident,” deputies said.
Williams was also a parole fugitive with several outstanding felony warrants, and authorities said he was booked into the Tooele County Detention Center on those warrants along with multiple charges related to Wednesday’s incident.
