SALT LAKE CITY — There was a large police presence in Salt Lake City Saturday afternoon as officers put a man in handcuffs.
Officials with the Salt Lake City Police Department said they received two 911 calls around 12:10 p.m. about a man “who was approaching community members near the Downtown Salt Lake City Farmers Market and acting suspiciously.”
When officers arrived, they noticed a man walking in the road as cars tried to maneuver around him.
Police said he refused to move, so they placed him in handcuffs for safety reasons and brought him over to the sidewalk.
“While the officers attempted to contact the person, a small crowd formed and started yelling toward officers,” read a statement from the SLCPD. “This escalated the situation to the point that additional officers were asked to respond and told to put up yellow crime scene tape to ensure the safety of the person in custody and the officers on scene.”
The man was ultimately released with a citation.
